A long-running week-long summer school in the Berkshires, beloved for its relaxed community vibe and its faculty — Jack Lee and other world-class players regularly teach here. Covers Great Highland Bagpipe technique, tune work, piobaireachd, and Scottish snare.

📍 Kutztown, PA & Edinboro, PA · two sessions
One of America's best-known summer schools, based out of Pittsburgh and running two back-to-back sessions each July on university campuses. Small-group classes, 1-on-1 tutoring, and camp-wide seminars on the Great Highland Bagpipe and Scottish snare for all ages and levels.

Held at the Valle Crucis Conference Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains, NAAPD is one of the oldest piping and drumming schools in North America. Its calendar typically aligns with the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, making it a natural destination-week combo.

📍 Flagstaff, Arizona · Northern Arizona University
A week-long intensive held on the NAU campus in the high mountain air of Flagstaff — a favorite for West-Coast and Mountain-West players who want a dedicated school without flying cross-country. Small-group and private instruction across the piping and drumming curriculum.

Hosted by the City of Winchester Pipes & Drums at Shenandoah University in historic Winchester. Short walk to town, on-campus housing available, and a consistently elite faculty list including three-time Gold-Medal piper Willie McCallum and former NPC principal Roddy MacLeod MBE.

Named for the late Rob McLintock, this West-Coast school is run under the San Diego Scottish Highland Games and traditionally falls in late June. 2026 dates weren't yet posted at the time of our research — click through for the current schedule and registration.

📍 Glasgow, Scotland · the institutional home of piping
Not a summer camp — an institution. The NPC offers everything from drop-in evening classes and one-to-one tuition to BA-level degree programmes in partnership with the Royal Conservatoire, plus a dense calendar of gatherings and the Piping Live! festival each August. With so many programmes running, click through for the current course finder.

Well-known US summer school with a drumming focus. We're aware of it but haven't verified 2026 details yet.
Held at the University of Waterloo; a common stop for Canadian players. Not yet researched in depth for this list.

Beyond the National Piping Centre, there are residential schools and summer programmes across Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and further afield. We've intentionally started with one anchor tenant.
Year-round online academies like Piper's Dojo, Dojo U, and the NPC's online school aren't camps in the traditional sense. We may give them their own page rather than mix them in here.
